With their versatile and always surprising mighty accordions, the creative musicians of the Circle will play theatre show tunes, cabaret music and much much more! Come along to the Carnegie Community Choir’s regular session and join in the fun! Enjoy a safe place to sing original and international a capella arrangements, play with group vocal improvisation, and experience techniques to free your natural voice. The choir is led by music and theatre facilitator Metta Paterson, who creates safe spaces where groups are able to revel in creativity, spontaneous play, empathic connection and powerful communication. Playwrights Theatre Centre (PTC) joins the Heart of the City Festival for our first collaborative public event in PTC’s new home. Drop in for a casual chat, a cup of tea and a taste of fresh theatre writing from established and emerging playwrights. The writers reading include Downtown Eastside community theatre makers Brenda Prince, UBC Masters student in Creative Writing; Patrick Foley, longtime community activist, songwriter and playwright; Leith Harris, poet, writer and athlete; and special guest PTC associate, creator, actor, dramaturge and dancer Lisa C. Ravensbergen. Our host for the afternoon is producer, director and PTC Dramaturg Kathleen Flaherty. Come for fifteen minutes or stay for ninety. Free
